Disseminated mycobacteriosis in patients with severe hematologic disorders.
During a 20-year period disseminated mycobacteriosis occurred in 11 (1.1%) of a total of 1006 patients with severe hematologic disorders, with the frequency remaining almost unchanged. The diagnosis in three patients (27%) was made only at autopsy. Tuberculosis accounted for 64% of all cases. Female preponderance was seen with a male-to-female ratio of 3:8. The major factors associated with dis...
متن کاملDisseminated mycobacteriosis in a bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus).
A mature bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) was diagnosed with mycobacterial infection after being presented for an inability to fly, emaciation, and a swelling of the left tibiotarsal-tarso metatarsal joint. Results of a complete blood cell count revealed a persistent, marked leukocytosis, with heterophilia, monocytosis, and anemia. Radiographs revealed lysis of the left distal tibiotarsus ...
متن کاملFamilial Incidence of Disseminated Sclerosis
IN Northern Ireland we have recently completed a survey of disseminated sclerosis; 700 cases have been traced and examined and in 44 families we have found more than one member affected, giving a familial incidence of 6.58 per cent.; this figure corresponds closely with the incidence in recent surveys from the Middlesex Hospital 6.5 per cent. (Pratt, et al., 1951), and from the Bristol area 6 p...
متن کاملA case of disseminated nontuberculous mycobacteriosis and cerebellar toxoplasmosis with autoantibody to interferon-γ.
Autoantibody against interferon-γ has recently been associated with a variety of opportunistic infections, particularly among Asians. We report the case of a 64-year-old Japanese woman who suffered from concomitant or sequential infections of the skin, lungs, bronchi, uterus, and bladder with nontuberculous mycobacteriosis, cerebellar toxoplasmosis, measles, herpes zoster, and vulvar herpes. Blo...
متن کاملSpecific lipids modulate the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP).
The transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) plays a key role in adaptive immunity by translocating proteasomal degradation products from the cytosol into the endoplasmic reticulum lumen for subsequent loading onto major histocompatibility (MHC) class I molecules. For functional and structural analysis of this ATP-binding cassette complex, we established the overexpression of TAP in...
